Here, in Good Lost Corners, Max returns to the modus operandi of SPOT SPOTS - his previous book from 2017 -, again presenting us a series of photos and juxtaposing these with his own reflections on the scenes we see. In contrast to documentary photography, however, which would document the actual occurrence of an event, Max’s reflections meander between personal thoughts, notes on his technique of photographing, and speculative statements on what might have happened or could still happen, yet often even doubting his own descriptions. As he writes about a photo he claims he took in London in 2018: It’s terrifying to notice how close these moments lay next to actual dreaming. I’m sometimes unsure whether I’m awake or not. ... But I was telling you about the dreaming; I’m really starting to doubt whether it actually happened like this. The descriptions alongside these photographs apparently cannot be trusted, but in doing so, they explicitly open up the photographs to interpretation, speculation, even fiction.
